PROJECT GROUPS

HORSE PROJECT: Meets monthly...
There will be instruction with hands on experience, judging team trips, horse bowls, and horse shows. You do not have to own a horse to join.

RABBIT PROJECT: Meets monthly...
Learn about the caring of rabbits, reproduction, marketing and exhibiting in shows through lectures, videos and clinics.

SHEEP PROJECT: Project begins in April for market lambs and ends in July. Learn how to care for, groom and train sheep for county, district and state livestock shows. It involves a low investment and can turn a small profit. Market lambs are sold at state show in Nashville in July.

BEEF PROJECT: Learn how to care for, groom and train beef for county, district and state livestock shows.

CHICK CHAIN: Start out with 25 chicks, learn how to raise them and return your best 5 pullets to the county poultry show and sale.

JUDGING TEAMS

Forestry: Discover tree, wood, insect and disease identification as well as using a compass and pacing method to determine direction and distance traveled. Compete at district competition in May with the possibility of competing at the state level.

Poultry & Egg: Learn to judge laying hens and grade ready-to-cook poultry and eggs.

Wildlife: Study aerial photographs and get first hand experience in learning what areas are best for certain wildlife and how to improve their domain. Then compete at the district competition in May, for a chance to compete at the state Wildlife Conference in June.

Plant & Seed Identification: Learn to identify forty plants and seeds. Compete at district level in August with a possibility of competing at the state level.

Livestock: Learn how to judge cattle, sheep and hogs. Then attend district competition in September with a possibility of going to State.

Horse: Visit horse farms and learn how to judge a horses performance and conformation and compete in Horse Bowl and Hippology Contests and the district in May with a chance to go to state.

Land: Learn how to determine whether sites are better suited for growing crops or building houses. Compete in Oct. at the district level with a chance to go to state.

Meats: Learn to identify cuts of beef, lamb and pork and to select the best quality of each cut. District contest in September, state competition is almost 1 year later.

Outdoor Meat Cookery & Barbeque: Learn to build a charcoal fire, cleanliness, safety, and preparing meat. Then compete at the Gray County Fair.

Clothing: Not only do you learn sewing and fashion terms, but you discover how to shop economically for quality and fashion conscience clothing. District competition is in September.

Interior Design: Develop skills in combining color, historic furnishings, house plans, arranging furniture, etc. Compete at the district level in September.

Food & Nutrition: Learn how to create and choose nutritional meals. District competition is in September.
