A large portion of Phillip Fulmer Way will be closing Monday, Dec. 1 to accommodate the next phase of renovations to Neyland Stadium. The construction involves the west side of the stadium and will be completed in August 2009.

Local Government Officials Complete Leadership Training
Twenty-two county and municipal government leaders have successfully completed the 16th annual Local Government Leadership Program (LGLP) at the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service (IPS). The invitation-only program, which focused on personal leadership, etiquette, ethics, public education and state budget practices in Tennessee, concluded Nov. 14.

UT Undergraduate Admissions Application Deadline Dec. 1; Grant Monies Available to Help 'Middle' Income Families
Officials at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, are reminding prospective freshmen that the deadline to apply for admission is now Dec. 1 -- two months earlier than in the past. In addition, a new admissions initiative called "Achieve the Dream" will make grant money available to help students from lower-middle-income families attend UT Knoxville.

New UT Supercomputer World's 15th Most Powerful
The University of Tennessee's new supercomputer has entered the ranks of the computing elite by placing 15th on the newly-released Top500 list of the world's most powerful computers. Named Kraken, after a mythical Norse sea monster, the newly unveiled machine is also the world's second most powerful academic supercomputer.

UT Report: Entrepreneurship $23 Billion Strong in Tennessee
The Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation and Columbia Main Street Program will host a discussion of "Entrepreneurship in Tennessee: Striving for Success," a study by Michael Wilcox and Dayton Lambert, both assistant professors of agricultural economics with the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation, Clyde York Conference Room, 147 Bear Creek Pike, in Columbia, Tenn.

UT Study Links Transportation Tendencies with Obesity
Walking or bicycling around town could have an added benefit beyond saving money at the gas pump. A new study conducted by faculty in the UT Obesity Research Center shows countries where walking and bicycling are common tend to have lower rates of obesity.

Friends Dedicate UT Business Classroom in Pugh's Honor
Prominent East Tennessee businessman Will Pugh recently was honored with the naming of the Will J. Pugh Classroom in the College of Business Administration's new James A. Haslam II Business Building. Pugh founded Pugh & Co. P.C., one of the area's largest and most successful accounting firms, in 1969.

Students Bring Recipes from Home for Multicultural Cookbook
The hotel, restaurant and tourism management program at UT Knoxville has published a cookbook with a variety of dishes cooked for many years by families from Tennessee and countries such as Germany, Haiti, India and China. The Multicultural Cookbook has a range of recipes from potato candy and bean bread to meatloaf and pav bhaji. The cookbook is on sale at the UT Bookstore.

UT Knoxville Names Newest Cox Professors
UT Knoxville has named three faculty members as the latest group of James R. Cox University Professors. The group includes Angela Batey, associate professor of music; Louis J. Gross, professor of mathematics and ecology and evolutionary biology; and Donald Hodges, professor of forestry, wildlife and fisheries.
